Malibu and Its Dogs


Malibu is well-known for its many beautiful beaches. However, dogs are not allowed on almost all of them, not even if the dogs are on leash! That’s because, according to one of our community police officers, people have been irresponsible about cleaning up after their dogs. As a result, dog policies in the city of Malibu have become very strict.

The First Family of Malibu - The Adamson Home

The sign reads “Malibu State Beach and Museum,” but fast-moving traffic on Pacific Coast Highway does not encourage one to stop and explore the Adamson House behind the block wall ensconced in honeysuckle and bougainvillea. The Spanish hacienda built in the ’20s was originally the beach home of the first family of Malibu—Merritt Huntley Adamson and his wife Rhoda Rindge Adamson. It rests on thirteen prime coastal acres overlooking Santa Monica Bay. Mrs. Adamson was the daughter of Frederick Hastings Rindge and the feisty Mae Rindge who once owned land from Topanga Canyon to the Ventura County line.
