The Real Hollywood Trivia Interview with Author of Scattered Leaves - Richard Roach
How would you convince seven shipwrecked individuals on a deserted island to buy your book? If Rhett Butler, one of the characters from Gone With the Wind were to change his famous line from “Frankly, My Dear I don’t give a damn” to Frankly, My Dear I think you should read this paragraph from this bestselling novelist. What paragraph do you think he is referring to? Find out all this and more today when The Real Hollywood Book Chat welcomes author Richard Roach, author of Scattered Leaves.
AUTHOR BIO:
Suspense/Mystery author Richard Roach was born in 1931 in Galveston, Texas. Short stories of his have been published in Man’s Story 2, Happy 2007, Vol. 20 and Bibliophilos 2006, Vol. 42. His first novel, Scattered Leaves, hit the book stores on September 1, ’08, and his second novel, Scattered Money, will be published in 2009.
You can visit his website at www.richarderoach.com.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
When Ben McCord comes home from a business trip to find his young wife raped and murdered, he starts out on a journey of death and destruction. Clues lead him to a dark world of drugs and violence in action that spans Texas, Colorado, and the Mexican border. McCord hooks up with a beautiful doctor, who was also victimized by members of the same drug cartel, and together they track down the killers, surviving bloody confrontations, and ending with a suspenseful climax in the Big Thicket of Texas.
Welcome to The Real Hollywood Book Chat Richard,
I can tell right away this is going to be an exciting game of Hollywood Trivia. Let's get started with question number one.
1. Gilligan’s Island Trivia – Taking a three hour boat tour, you find yourself shipwrecked on this tiny little remote island where 7 people were also shipwrecked. How would you convince this varied audience to read your book? Remember on this island besides The Skipper, his little buddy Gilligan and MaryAnn, is the smart Professor, the rich Mr.& Mrs. Howell who have the money to make your book into a movie and Ginger the movie star who might have a starring role. Please talk to the audience not to me.
Answer: Ben McCord has recently returned from Iraq with a trunk full of gold, diamonds and options on Sheik Aliabad’s oil lands. He gets the group together and tells them they can each have one wish costing up to one billion in U. S. dollars but in return they must agree to help him promote his book, make it into a movie, and dedicate the next year of their life to him.
All the members agree to help him except Gilligan. (He’s too stupid to understand what can be done with that much money.) McCord takes him to the other side of the island and gives him to a native who just happens to be rowing by in a canoe.
2. Wheel of Fortune – you have been asked by the Wheel of Fortune writers to create a word puzzle spelling one of the books characters his/her name. Which character name would you want on the Wheel of Fortune puzzle board and why?
Answer: Ben McCord. He secretly bought the game show when he returned from Iraq and he’s going to have the puzzle read: (This is in keeping with the financial meltdown, dear ones.) YOU ARE ALL FIRED. (The reason is simple. That was the only TV show he could get in Iraq and he grew to hate it.
3. Gone With the Wind – If Rhett Butler were to change his famous line from “Frankly, My Dear I don’t give a damn” to Frankly, My Dear I think you should read this paragraph from this bestselling novelist. What paragraph is Rhett referring to? Tell us how it fits into the novel?
Answer: Frankly, My Dear I think you should read this paragraph from Richard Roach's novel. The paragraph in SCATTERED LEAVES that tells the directions to the drug manufacturing plan in Big Bend . (That’s the name of an area in Texas on the Mexico border.) The reason is they can get all their drugs wholesale and stay high forever. The can float among the clouds and forget the not so civil war.
4. Hollywood Book Walk of Fame – A bookstore in Hollywood , California had decided that books should have their own walk of fame. So they have lined the sidewalk in front of their store with book molds in the sidewalk. Your name is to appear on one of these book molds. You give an acceptance speech at the ceremony. What would you say and who would you thank?
Answer: First, not being an idiot, I would thank: The Real Hollywood blog for promoting SCATTERED LEAVES (and buying ten million copies), without their help I would have remained a nobody. I would thank Dorothy Thompson for her endless hours of work in my behalf. And, oh yes! Thank God for President Obama. Did you see the stock market today? He has saved America . I almost forgot —think about his filed teeth, they are so shiny and bright, they dazzled the voters—what would I do if GE failed. I would beg everyone to remember that China is our friend and to please, send them warm coats with a candy bar in each pocket this coming Christmas. Thank you patient reader for staying with me this long, I love you!
Thank you, Richard E. Roach for stopping by The Real Hollywood blog today. I wish you continued success on your virtual book tour and who knows, your book might just make it to the silver screen.
Thank you for having me. I enjoyed your spiffy questions.

Hollywood Trivia and Fun Facts - At The Movies

The good old U.S.A. celebrates its 232nd birthday this week on Friday, July 4th birthday.
At The Movies: The Fourth of July has become synonymous with the actor Will Smith. No less than four of movies have been released in time for the fireworks, Independence Day, Men in Black and the comic western The Wild, Wild, West. On the big screen this weekend Will Smith in his typical humor plays Hancock a wisecracking homeless, alcoholic superhero saves the life of a man who is determined to make him into a true hero the world can adore. It was in 1996 the first of his four movies Independence Day was released and had us forever watching the skies above the valley.
Say Thanks and Display it Proudly: In L.A. there appears to be another trend starting with the all too familiar shortcut for the word thanks “thx”? What I thought was an anomaly of seeing one license plate that read “THXUMOM” became a second plate “THXSUPS.” Just who or what are you thankful for?
Pamela Sue Anderson, actress and maybe best known for her scantily clad role in the television series, Baywatch turned 41 on July 1st.
Hollywood Walk of Fame: The country music duo of Brooks and Dunn will be immortalized on the famed Tinsel Town sidewalk in Hollywood on August 4, 2008. They will join other music notables this year including George Harrison (The Beatles), Christina Aguilera, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Ricky Martin.
Angelina Jolie was admitted to the hospital, July 1st in the south of France in the town of Nice. Angelina and Brad and their brood of children have recently begun calling Nice their home along with their seaside residence in Malibu, California and others around the globe. The hospital’s address should make Brad and Angie feel right at home. It’s on Nice’s California Avenue.
Britney Spears will soon be responsible for fewer accidents in the valley, less paparazzi clogging the streets and will no longer require the escort services of the Los Angeles Police Department on her late night runs to the hospital. It has been reported that she is selling her house in Studio City, California. Good luck to the next city where she puts down roots.
Did ya know? Author Francine Pascal, author of Sweet Valley High and 35 other books with the theme around the prom never attended her own high school prom.
